10 couple of stud book beagles, property of the
Norton and Casserly families. |
| Country |
The Westmeath Foot Beagles now hunt the country
north and east of the town of Mullingar almost as far as Oldcastle,
Kells and Trim in County Meath. The country is shared with the
Ballymacad Foxhounds, the Meath Hounds, the Tara Harriers and the
Westmeath Hounds. |
| History |
The Westmeath Foot Beagles were registered with the
Irish Masters of Beaagles Association in 1999 when Mr James Norton
took over at his own expense the country formerly hunted by the
Russellstown Beagles. In 2002 the country south and west of a line
from Longford Town to Mullingar and onto Ballinagore was loaned to
Mr. Kieran Lambert who registered his Balgarret Beagles with the
Irish Masters of Beagles Association.
In 2004, the kennels were moved from Kilrush Hall, Clonmellon to
Stonehall, Multyfarmham courtesy of the Maxwell family. In 2008, new
kennels were built at Cortown near Kells courtesy of the Casserly
family.
Best meets are Crookedwood, Multyfarnham, Clonmellon, Cloughan and
the Hill of Uisneach.
Mr Norton, who had previously whipped-in and hunted the South
Westmeath Harriers, established his original pack with drafts from
the Eton College and has latterly strengthened the pack with drafts
from the Derbyshire (DNS) Beagles and Mr Jonathan Elliott's Beagles. |

This is a private pack but visitors are most welcome. A cap is not
taken but regular followers are expected to make some contribution
towards hunt funds. |
