| Hunt country: |
The registered country lies in Derbyshire. Staffordshire, Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire and includes plenty of old turf intersected by stout hedges and natural fences. To the north is stone wall country. |
| History: |
The Four Shires was founded at the Millennium by Maggie Pearlstine and Edward Hammond, both former masters of The Farmers’ Bloodhounds in the Cotswolds. They were supported by the founding President, the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire and the Chairman, Sir Andrew Buchanan, the Lord-lieutenant of Nottinghamshire. The Dowager Duchess was succeeded as President by the Duchess of Devonshire, DL in 2011. The Hunt is a member of the Masters of Draghounds and Bloodhounds Association. The pack developed from the original Kyre Bloodhounds, which merged into the Four Shires, drafts from other packs and now hunts home-grown puppies. Kennels are in Pikehall in the Peak Park. In 2011 the Four Shires's second appearance at Peterborough, it won the Bloodhound Championship at the Festival of Hunting at Peterborough with Evie, who also won the best brood bitch and came second in the entered bitch class. She is out of Worry, a former lead hound from the hunt’s first litter. Pedro won the stallion hound class and Everglade, one of Evie's puppies, won the best unentered bitch category. As explained on Countryfile, hounds hunt the clean boot in this wonderful varied hunting country. There is a second field master for those who prefer little or no jumping. The Hunt welcomes visitors and prides itself on being friendly. |
